This piece depicts me and my own spiritual and personal growth. As a self-portrait piece, I decided that my hand would be a better representation of who I am rather than my face. This is because I am connected to the idea that creating and doing things with my hands is a big part of who I am as a person and who I want to become. The painting depicts my hand resting on a mirror where a whole hand is seen while the “real” hand is incomplete and slowly being stitched with thread to become complete. One might also interpret the other way around and unraveling. Either way, it is a depiction of who I want to become and how the way that I live can bring me closer to that person or farther away.
