Frequently Asked Questions

What document type should I use for submissions?

Please submit your work as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file.

When will I hear back about my work?

We carefully review every submission; this process often takes several months. For the Fall edition, you can expect to hear back by December 20th. For the Winter edition, you can expect to hear back by April 20th.

What kind of submissions is Inscape looking for?

Inscape publishes well–crafted fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art that embodies one or more of our five defining identities: smart, believing, peculiar, refreshing, and excellent. Please refer to our submission guidelines for more information.

Can I submit the same piece more than once?

If a piece you submitted was initially rejected, we gladly welcome that piece again—but only if you have given it sturdy revisions and edits.

Can I submit more than one piece?

We are happy to accept multiple submissions. You may submit up to two pieces per literary category and five pieces for visual arts.

Where can I find Inscape's submission guidelines?

Click this link to view our submission guidelines.

On our homepage, click the “Submit” button in the top right corner. This will take you to a page where you can review our submission guidelines before submitting your work. Please review each of these guidelines carefully before submitting your work.

Will I be monetarily compensated if my piece is published?

Not every accepted submission will receive compensation. However, four cash prizes will be awarded; one prize will be given for the most exemplary piece in each submission category.

Can I submit my work to other journals?

You may; we accept simultaneous submissions. If you are accepted to publish at Inscape, we ask that you withdraw your work from other journals. If you are accepted to publish elsewhere but would rather be published at Inscape, we ask that you contact us right away, requesting our decision. Though we prefer to have your piece published in only one place—either with Inscape or another journal—please contact us if you do decide to publish elsewhere and we will discuss options.
