Sundown swallows rise at the fresh of each morning.
Where children dammed the stream,
                                                                        the cattle egrets pose
and the water spills over like smoothed time.

I write what I know
and the world unwrites all that I know
and the mud-brown fish keep multiplying
in their infinite dance
                                    over dark sand.
