By Neah DePoe

If God’s angels have any sense,
they’ll trade in the harps for electric guitars.

Because you’ve got this monster
that gnashes notes and slashes ears,
snarl-growls in hellish feral reverb.

It’s a battle to tame.
Clawed left-hand curled around the neck,
shoulders hunched and wincing at garbled chords.
Strings buck and snap under chewed nails,
wires dribble sweat.

But, if you can wrangle it down,
it sings, exalts you
in the electric glory
of what it is to howl hallelujah
—and shred.
